Being a 90s kid, I feel a little nostalgic whenever I think of the first years of my life. Every so often, I try to remind myself of that time when I had no computer, internet access and a smart phone 24/7. I have to do it in order to feel a little more like a decent human being and not just like a crazy maniac constantly working on at least 2 devices, 5 different social network accounts and more than 3 projects at the same time. The truth is that I hardly remember what it felt like without all of the aformentioned technology and I don’t exaggerate when I say that I couldn’t even remotely imagine being without it anymore (especially taking into consideration that I am a design student).
But even if I appreciate the opportunities that come with social media, I detest what we make of them. We focus on numbers of likes, hearts, thumbs ups, that is to say we focus on presenting and selling ourselves when we should aim for connecting to people. I guess, it is just hard to remember that we are human, when all we face are profiles and screens.
